Bonnie Simmons began her career in radio with a couple of different administrative roles at fabled Freeform radio station KSAN-FM, the Jive 95 broadcaster that rocked San Francisco for many a year when the Classic Era of Rock Music was being birthed. Soon enough she was behind the mic and quickly became one of the most recognized voices in broadcasting.
That was fifty-six years ago and she still plays tunes for the listening audience in the Bay Area with her weekly Thursday night show on KPFA in Berkeley. In fact, every so often she gets a call during her show from someone to tell her they've been listening to her shows all that while. That's longevity and Bonnie has brought the same love of music, exquisite good taste, and respect for her audience to her shows her entire career.
She also has her hands in other cool things. She's audio director of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Transport Director for the annual Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Festival each Fall in San Francisco, is Executive Director of the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation and is an inductee in the Rock Radio Hall of Fame. What she does in her spare time who knows? But she found time to tell us about her life as a seminal figure in radio (HERE) and we're very glad she did.
